A Bu:
The Jazz pianist and composer. At age 9, he was admitted to the elementary school of China Central Conservatory of Music, majoring in classical piano under Professor Zhang Zhiwei. In the same year, he began studying jazz and improvisation with Chinese jazz pianist Kong Hongwei (also known as Jin Fo). At 13, he formed his first jazz trio and performed at music festivals both in China and abroad. He released his debut jazz album at 14, and entered the Pre College Division of the Juilliard School at 15, during which time he won several international awards.
In 2015, A Bu became the first Chinese winner in history at the Montreux Jazz Solo Piano Competition in Switzerland, winning both the First Prize of the Jury and the Audience Award. In 2019, he won the Gold Award at the Riga Jazz Stage in Latvia. In the same year, he completed recording his solo jazz piano trio album “One Step East” in the United States.
A Bu has a rich performance record, consistently active on major international stages, and has held concerts in many top concert halls around the world. He has been praised as “a creative composer and pianist.” He is also the first Chinese musician to perform at the legendary Blue Note Jazz Club in New York.
